Easter 2013

Our family is strange I guess in that we don't do the Easter bunny, we don't do Easter baskets, we don't dye Easter eggs, we don't do an Easter egg hunt, or participate in anything else that really has nothing to do with Easter.  Personally I think all those things are just distractions for the real reason for Easter, and who needs that, especially on the most important day of celebration for a Christian?  Shouldn't it be enough that Christ died and is now alive?  Why the chicks and the bunny and the eggs?  I just don't get it!!  And I especially don't get it when churches participate in those things.  I get the outreach aspect of it, but aren't we called to be in this world, but not of it and definitely not conforming to it (Romans 12:2)? How is the church really going to look inviting for the long-haul when it looks no different than anything else the world has to offer?  We were driving to church on Easter morning and it just broke my heart to see so many people out doing other stuff, like it wasn't any big deal that it was Easter morning.  We saw people walking their dogs, a huge horse show/convention with tons of trailers and people and horses all in matching riding outfits.  It made me so sad and so aware of how clueless and lost this world is!

Okay, I'll get off my high horse now......

This year was unique in that Logan's birthday was on Easter, so we had two joyous events to celebrate!  We got all dressed up for church (although I didn't buy any new clothes for anyone, we just wore our Sunday best) and took the time to do a little family photo shoot.

After taking pictures, we headed off to church.  I just love Easter music and remembering what Jesus did for me on the cross and how He is now reigning in Heaven.  Love it!  It's the best part of Easter, in my humble opinion.

  1. Do you do Santa, Christmas Trees, presents at Christmas? Those dont have anything to do with the real meaning of Christmas either, so I see the Easter bunny/chicks, baskets, egg hunts as the same thing I guess! (I think the bunnies/chicks stem from the fact it is spring)

    You all look great! :)

    1. Specifically, the way I view it is:

      Santa = Easter Bunny
      Christmas presents = Easter baskets
      Christmas tree/picking out ornaments = dyeing eggs

    2. Oh Magda, I am sorry if I offended you in any way, that was not the intent of my post. We do not do Santa at Christmas, for the same reason. We do do presents and a tree, but we talk about how the reason we do gifts is because Jesus was given as a gift to the world and the wise men brought gifts to Jesus. We definitely try to keep the focus on the real meaning of Christmas the whole time. You got me with the tree, but honestly, besides setting it up and taking it down, it isn't a big deal, it doesn't distract out kids cuz they aren't that interested in it. I realize it's a fine line and that lots of people disagree with me on this one, so I was just trying to state why we don't and why I don't necessarily understand it all.

  2. Oh you didn't offend me, I was just curious how you handled Christmas and the same sorts of things then! I was just curious :) I don't disagree with anything you said only box everyone has their own views of what works best for their family and I don't think there is a right or wrong way! :)
